1.”I don’t need a website for my business. I already have Facebook”
We’ve already talked about the Facebook topic in a prior posting. Business owners who are relying only on Facebook are assuming that people know where their business is located. If the potential customer does not know the name of the business, chances are, they will not find the business name through Facebook. If I search “Frozen Yogurt Near Me,” Facebook listings do not show up in my Google search.
2.”We’re a small business. A website seems unnecessary.”
This must have sounded like people in the 1950s saying,”We are a small business. Telephones are unnecessary.” I am sure there were plenty of businesses that thought they way back then. Technology moves forward. The Internet isn’t going away. When small businesses refuse to include themselves in a major part of the world, because the Internet is just that — a section of the world that keeps us connected — then they are choosing to refuse to do business with a lot of people. That’s their choice, but WHY would they do that?! It makes no sense. I guess they don’t like making money.
3.”We’re in the Yellow Pages.”
OK, again, welcome to 1886 when the Yellow Pages first came to be. Do you know what I do with my Yellow Pages? I put them in the recycling bin. They take up too much space. That’s why we have the Internet.
4.”My customers know where we are.”
To business owners who say this, my answer to them is, yes, your current customers know where you are, but your future potential customers don’t. They will never be your customers if they can’t find you.
Your customers will not always be your customers if you do not offer the best services to them, and a website is a service to your customers. Some of us out here in the world are strange people who are weird about picking up the phone and calling businesses. We are shy that way. We have phone phobias. We don’t like to call up businesses and ask when they are open. We like to go on the Internet, look up a website and see if the place is open or not. If they don’t have a website and all I find online is a telephone number, I will go to the business that has a website that I don’t have to bother with calling. I’m afraid of talking to strangers. A lot of people are just like me. People in the world really like websites. Trust me, the phone phobic, on this one. We will avoid your business if you don’t have a website.
5.”A website will be too expensive. It’s not worth it to me.”
We can work with you on that and make it so that it is affordable for you. For all of the reasons above, it definitely should be worth it to you. If you value your business and your customers, it should be the utmost importance to you.
