It’s the beginning of 2018 and with a new year always comes the resolutions. I have been down with a super nasty cold since the beginning of the year, and I am still fighting it. However, I do not want it to be February before I start on my resolution. Plus, this will probably only last until February if I’m really motivated, so I better get moving while I have some gumption in me. So without further ado, here goes…my resolution for 2018? To do more blogging! I have had this resolution before for a personal blog, and it has fizzled out pretty fast. I am hoping for more success here, but we shall see how I do. It was pretty depressing to look on here and see that our last blog was from *gasp* January of 2017! That’s terrible. Embarrassing, really. I’m going to try to practice a little of what I preach.
So, we have built you a brand new website, and we have told you that one of the best things you can do is blog. Why is this true? Here are some reasons that blogging is so good for your business.
Highlight Upcoming Specials Through Blogging
One obvious reason for a business to blog is to highlight any upcoming or seasonal specials. This could even be true for a church or religious group. Church blogs may not say “Blog” on them, but we still build the site around a blog format. We may call it “Events” or “News” or something like that, but churches often have special worship services they may want to promote. If you are a restaurant, you may have a particular dish that you want to highlight for the season. This is a great opportunity to describe your ingredients in more detail. Maybe your spring clothing collection has just come in and you want to let everyone know about the new colors. Whatever your business is, writing a blog about a sale or special that you are showcasing is an easy way to start writing and to generate more interest in your product.
Blogging Promotes Good SEO
Ah, the elusive SEO. What is SEO again? Search Engine Optimization. It’s what makes it easier for people to find you when they search on Google or any other search engine. The more you blog about your products and business, the more chances you have to put the words on your site that you want people to search. If you only have a few measly web pages to achieve this, it’s very difficult. If you can blog, you have countless opportunities to create content that will drive people to your site. So the better you are at creating interesting, relevant content that pertains to your business, the better your chances are at driving people to your site.
Don’t Use Big Blocks of Text
The look of the text is strangely crucial for users. Big swaths of text turn users off, so be sure to break up the text with headings, as I am trying to do here. I was looking over past blogs, and we did not do that so well in the past. I am trying to do better at that. More white space! This is sort of randomly inserted in here, but it’s important.
Blogging Helps Organization of Business Goals
I believe that blogging is really good for keeping your business’s goals front and center. To consistently blog, you have to be reading a lot, looking at current trends, and really searching for what is most important to your business. Finding the time and discipline for blogging is the challenge, but if time can be set aside for blogging each week just like any other business task, your website will become a much more valuable asset to your business.
